Co-op: Google is changing. You will you notice?

Perhaps it is easier to notice these changes making a turn on http://www.google.us and typing, for example, the word "flu" (influenza in Italian) as a key word search.

The search engine offers the SERP, with an interesting addition. Before the search results to which we are accustomed, Google offers the "Refine Results for flu," which presents a range of topics in medical / health related to the word "flu". These topics are you with proper categorizations which allow more research on specific sites (eg treatments, tests / diagnosis, For patients, to doctors, etc. ..).

Now the question is: how does Google to categorize sites in relation to a theme and provide a level of depth of research that performance?

The answer is seplice: Google Co-op.

Among its experimental programs has enabled Google Co-op program which is actually a real platform of services. The intention of Google would seem to identify areas of study (topic) which specialize in the generic search engine to produce results highly relevant to the needs of research. This specialization is, of course, obtained with the human, in other words, through the selection of sites and their categorization (or labeling, labeling) from users who participate in volunteer services of the co-op program.

One of Co-op is the best known CSE, the CSE. By accessing the site http://www.google.com/coop, you can create customized search engines based on Google technology specialist but on specific issues of interest to you and then focus on sites that are responsible in particular such issues. Once created, the CSE can be accessed from a web page hosted by Google (Google Co-op Homepage), or in addition, can be inserted into a site with an excellent level of customization. To complete the picture on the CSE, there is a chance to view, together with the results of research, publicity associated with our Adsense account and then monetize ads on highly correlated with the search.

The CSE is not, however, the only service Google Co-op. There are at least two others: the Marker, the Subscriber Link.

The marker (marker) http://www.google.it/coop/cse/marker exactly is a service equivalent to that which we have used the social network sites. Browsing on the Internet can mark a site / page as relevant or not relevant to a topic associated with our CSE. There ', however, a special! By accessing the site http://www.google.it/coop/topics/ you can register as a volunteer in the program and extend Topic marking a series of categories set of issues not related to CSEs. These categories (Health, and Computer Games, Travel, Wellness, etc. ..), called Google Topic, are used by Google to provide the "refined" on the SERP similar to those I described earlier in this article by example "Flu".

The subscriber link (subscribed link), whose control panel is accessible to http://www.google.com/coop/manage/subscribedlinks/, is something more subtle. Here's an example to understand what we speak. We do a lap on http://www.google.it and, as a search term, we write "weather savona." The result is the usual list at the top suggests a forecast of weather graphics on the city of Savona. This type of result is called integrated result (integrated results). The subscriber link is a service that allows users to create their own integrated results to display - in response to specific keywords - the organic results. The only difference compared to the case an example of the weather, is that these results can be displayed on search pages only those users who have a Google account and you subscribe to our result explicitly incorporated. An integrated list of results that you can subscribe to the URL provided http://www.google.com/coop/subscribedlinks/directory/Latest, however, you can also add a button or a link to a page dedicated to the presentation ( ospitatata by Google) from which to proceed with the subscription.

From a certain point of view, we can understand the underwriters of links as a sort of message AdWords for those who choose to subscribe to our integrated result. These messages can include static content or dynamic images, iGoogle gadget. What we think.

Except for the marker (where actually, with its direct contribution on Google topic, it may affect your ability to study organic results) is not very clear how the other personalized services (underwriters and CSE) are absorbed and used by Google for the deepening of the traditional search results. Personally, I do not think Google can resist the temptation to transpose the configuration of CSEs most efficient and profitable. In addition, one year after the launch of Google Co-op, it is increasingly evident (in particular on the U.S. market) noted that it affects in some way on organic Google results.

According to some sources, the label co-op can have a negative effect. For example, sites that receive marking Google Co-op and the results appear to be refined, may not have a good ranking among the natural results. References to the site, they were moved through the results refined, have removed the ability to display results in traditional with a likely negative impact in traffic to the site. This last note, in my opinion, if confirmed would be difficult to justify a penalty for an ambitious program as Co-op. However, observe and investigate are a requirement.
